Mano, Pie y Boca...

Yup, add "disease" to the end and that's what Skip's got. Gross! Actually, it's not the end of the world. Though it's relatively uncommon in adults, it's not terrible, and it will (most likely) go away on it's own. He noticed a funny red rash on his hands yesterday, so he figured he would get it checked out to make sure it wasn't anything really bad. No medications or anything for it, he's just got to keep an eye on it. And we've got to keep an eye on Preston to make sure nothing happens with him, either.

Speaking of Preston, I forgot to update in my last post that tooth #2 has come in! And, his hair is totally bleached out from being up north. Looks like we've got a little blondie on our hands. He also is at the point where I can put him down standing, and let go-- and he will stand on his own for a couple seconds. It's the coolest thing. But also kind of a funny thing because he is so tiny! He's figured out how to scoot himself a little bit when he's sitting on his butt, and also roll himself to get where he wants. No crawling, though. He manages okay, though, since every morning I will go in to find him with his head at the opposite end of the crib that he started on the night before, and wriggled all the way into the corner of the crib. I've had to move the cord for the wipe warmer since I found him yanking on it the other morning. Oops... I figure it's probably not the best idea to let my child electrocute himself.

In other news, my job is... wait for it... busy!! Holy shitballs! Yup, I've got, count 'em, 13 meetings scheduled between this week and next, and most likely a few more will get scheduled. For me, that's pretty darn productive. We're working on a project where I pretty much do all the interviews with a certain subset of people, so it's keeping me occupied. Thank god. During the summer, it takes all I can muster to keep my mind on my job during the day, and not on the things I could be enjoying outside. So, go me!

Also in other news, Skip got hired on at Meda-Care to be a nurse on the S.T.A.T. rig, which means he will be in charge of the patient care for transports of (mostly) critical patients from one facility to another. And the pay ain't bad, either, so this is a good thing. He'll be busier, but that man lives and breathes busy.

Back home

So, we're home. I got to work this morning and got out of my car, only to smell and notice my rear tires smoking. Not a good start to the week...

Anyways, we had a wonderful time up north. Not free from some interesting little snafus, but good nonetheless:

Skip had dropped Preston off Friday with my mom and dad, since we had Katie and John's wedding on Saturday, so we were childless for a couple of days. I got off work, and we did a little packing before going out to Waukesha for a little date night. Unfortunately I noticed when I got home that Skip and I had miscommunicated, and he had forgotten to send half of Preston's stuff with my mom and dad (the diapers, clothes, and wipes half...). This was after another miscommunication on his milk earlier in the day, so I had a slight mommy-meltdown that afternoon. I was officially ready for vacation! We stopped for a little bit to watch Megan and Elizabeth, then headed to Aldi for our up-north-shopping. $106 later... we went downtown (Waukesha) for a lovely dinner at Sakura sushi. It was SO delicious. We bummed around for a little bit longer since there were a bunch of things going on around the town, then came home and finished packing.

Saturday we got up, and I took the Jeep for an oil change. When I got back, Skip packed it up, then we got on the road to CL. We stopped at my mom and dad's to get dressed and drop Scotch off, and meet Melissa. We caravanned to the wedding, albeit arriving a little late... oops... It was a beautiful ceremony in a really nice little church. After the wedding, we went on a little b-double-e-double-r-u-n, and that's where we had a little "fun." We pulled into the parking lot at World Market, and although I saw a bottle in the middle of one parking spot (surrounded by two empty spots, mind you...), I thought "oh, I'll just go around the bottle and park there anyways." As I pull in, I hear "BANG" and as we are getting out of the car, and serious hissing sound was coming from the front right tire... Ellen Fail. Yep, that tire completely emptied within about 3 minutes. I was PISSED, more at myself than anything. Seriously, who does that?! UGH. So, we got on the phone to the local tow company to have them come out and hopefully repair the tire so we could still drive on it. Yeah right. The hole was the size of a ping pong ball. We emptied the ENTIRE back of the car out to get at the spare, and were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a full-size spare, and the exact type of tire as the others, too. Thank the lord. That meant we weren't going to have to scramble around on a Saturday to find some place open to buy a new tire. Whew.

So, Skip and Jared (thanks so much to him for his lab coats...), changed the tire, and we were able to cancel the tow truck and enjoy the rest of the night. Also, we knew we would be able to drive all the way up north on the spare, since it was full-sized, and worry about getting a new one later in the week. We partied a bit at the hotel beforehand, then went to the reception. We had such a good time, and Katie and John looked so happy. It turned out to be a wonderful evening, and we pretty much crashed when we got back to my mom and dad's.

We got up early on Sunday and headed north. It was pretty much an uneventful ride, and we were so happy when we got up there. It was great to see our little guy, and he had such a smile on his face when he saw us, too. We settled right in to the relaxing and fishing. Essentially, that's what we did all week long! Believe it or not, I actually did not take any pictures the whole week. However, I think everyone else did, so I'm looking forward to seeing those pics! Unfortunately, towards the end of the week, Preston started feeling under the weather. It's hard being out of your normal environment when you have a sick baby. He had been SO good the entire week, so we knew something was up. He managed to make it through the days okay, but was pretty fussy at night. He got lots of love those last couple of days (not like he didn't the other days, too, but you know...)

Saturday morning came around, and we packed up and headed back south... :(. We took a leisurely ride home, but when we got home, Skip spiked a 103 fever. He fell asleep as soon as we got home, and then later in the evening, I started feeling terrible as well. God only knows what was going through us, maybe it was whatever Preston had. We just sat and watched movies all day Sunday, which actually was fine with me. We won't have another weekend free for a couple weeks now, so though I was feeling crappy, it was nice to veg at home.

This morning sucked going back to work, but such is life. We're looking forward to wedding #3 of the season this Friday, this turn it's Jes and Charlie! That will be a fun one, too!

Ready to go.

I'm SO ready to go up north. It's not like my life is that stressful and difficult, but I'm tired, and I know I can relax and unwind up there. Plus, I'm very excited to introduce Preston to our tradition.

Speaking of Preston, he finally cut his first tooth! We were beginning to think it was never going to happen, and that they were going to stay lodged under his gums for the rest of his life. He thought I was so funny when I was yelling "yay!!" last night. :) He is also wanting more and more to stand holding on to something, but he gets all flustered when he realizes the only way to get back down to the floor is by bonking himself to the ground. It's like he gets stuck, it's kind of funny. No crawling, though. I think he thinks we're nuts when we put him on his tummy. He really hates it. He's perfectly content to stay sitting forever, and he will reach for toys. But the moment that it's out of his reach and he realizes he'd have to go crawling to get it, he just says "nevermind, nope not gonna do it." The little stinker...

Anyways, we had a nice 4th of July weekend, but it was very busy. We left WI on Friday night and went down to Illinois City, IL to visit with Harrisons. Their new home is beautiful, and they were such wonderful hosts. Mike and Andy set off some good fireworks Saturday night, and we were also able to get some sun and great visiting in. Preston and Megan didn't do so well in the car ride home, though, so that kind of sucked. We got home Sunday evening, and just took it easy, but we were tired.

Monday I marched in a little parade playing the sousaphone, and that was fun. It's a great opportunity to provide a celebration for a neighborhood that is often overlooked, and I know that the children absolutely love it. So it was a good time. It's a bonus that I get paid for it, too-- can't forget that part. We went down to Racine Monday afternoon, and though we had only planned originally to stay a few hours, we ended up staying until after 7pm. We had a really fun time, but we were really beat by that point. Skip had worked a TON already that weekend, so we were ready to be home.

This past week was prep week for the northwoods, and I've almost forgotten that it's also Katie and John's wedding! I'm so excited to go to a "big fat Greek wedding," so I think this one will be a good one. After this wedding it's 2 down, 4 more to go this season...
