So, we're home. I got to work this morning and got out of my car, only to smell and notice my rear tires smoking. Not a good start to the week...
Anyways, we had a wonderful time up north. Not free from some interesting little snafus, but good nonetheless:
Skip had dropped Preston off Friday with my mom and dad, since we had Katie and John's wedding on Saturday, so we were childless for a couple of days. I got off work, and we did a little packing before going out to Waukesha for a little date night. Unfortunately I noticed when I got home that Skip and I had miscommunicated, and he had forgotten to send half of Preston's stuff with my mom and dad (the diapers, clothes, and wipes half...). This was after another miscommunication on his milk earlier in the day, so I had a slight mommy-meltdown that afternoon. I was officially ready for vacation! We stopped for a little bit to watch Megan and Elizabeth, then headed to Aldi for our up-north-shopping. $106 later... we went downtown (Waukesha) for a lovely dinner at Sakura sushi. It was SO delicious. We bummed around for a little bit longer since there were a bunch of things going on around the town, then came home and finished packing.
Saturday we got up, and I took the Jeep for an oil change. When I got back, Skip packed it up, then we got on the road to CL. We stopped at my mom and dad's to get dressed and drop Scotch off, and meet Melissa. We caravanned to the wedding, albeit arriving a little late... oops... It was a beautiful ceremony in a really nice little church. After the wedding, we went on a little b-double-e-double-r-u-n, and that's where we had a little "fun." We pulled into the parking lot at World Market, and although I saw a bottle in the middle of one parking spot (surrounded by two empty spots, mind you...), I thought "oh, I'll just go around the bottle and park there anyways." As I pull in, I hear "BANG" and as we are getting out of the car, and serious hissing sound was coming from the front right tire... Ellen Fail. Yep, that tire completely emptied within about 3 minutes. I was PISSED, more at myself than anything. Seriously, who does that?! UGH. So, we got on the phone to the local tow company to have them come out and hopefully repair the tire so we could still drive on it. Yeah right. The hole was the size of a ping pong ball. We emptied the ENTIRE back of the car out to get at the spare, and were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a full-size spare, and the exact type of tire as the others, too. Thank the lord. That meant we weren't going to have to scramble around on a Saturday to find some place open to buy a new tire. Whew.
So, Skip and Jared (thanks so much to him for his lab coats...), changed the tire, and we were able to cancel the tow truck and enjoy the rest of the night. Also, we knew we would be able to drive all the way up north on the spare, since it was full-sized, and worry about getting a new one later in the week. We partied a bit at the hotel beforehand, then went to the reception. We had such a good time, and Katie and John looked so happy. It turned out to be a wonderful evening, and we pretty much crashed when we got back to my mom and dad's.
We got up early on Sunday and headed north. It was pretty much an uneventful ride, and we were so happy when we got up there. It was great to see our little guy, and he had such a smile on his face when he saw us, too. We settled right in to the relaxing and fishing. Essentially, that's what we did all week long! Believe it or not, I actually did not take any pictures the whole week. However, I think everyone else did, so I'm looking forward to seeing those pics! Unfortunately, towards the end of the week, Preston started feeling under the weather. It's hard being out of your normal environment when you have a sick baby. He had been SO good the entire week, so we knew something was up. He managed to make it through the days okay, but was pretty fussy at night. He got lots of love those last couple of days (not like he didn't the other days, too, but you know...)
Saturday morning came around, and we packed up and headed back south... :(. We took a leisurely ride home, but when we got home, Skip spiked a 103 fever. He fell asleep as soon as we got home, and then later in the evening, I started feeling terrible as well. God only knows what was going through us, maybe it was whatever Preston had. We just sat and watched movies all day Sunday, which actually was fine with me. We won't have another weekend free for a couple weeks now, so though I was feeling crappy, it was nice to veg at home.
This morning sucked going back to work, but such is life. We're looking forward to wedding #3 of the season this Friday, this turn it's Jes and Charlie! That will be a fun one, too!
