Productive weekend at HOME

Loved it. Nothing on the calendar for the WHOLE weekend. I was so excited!

I left work on Friday to meet my mom in Lake Geneva to swap Preston (they had him overnight). We had a nice visit over a glass of wine, while Preston finished about 1/2 of a hamburger. I've never seen such a tiny little thing eat so much! Preston and I did a little shopping down in LG before heading home, and then crashed once we got home. He had reached his limit of Maurices... :)

On Saturday, Preston, the little angel, decided to let Mommy sleep until 8 am!! I woke up in a little bit of a start, though, because I couldn't believe what time it was when I looked at the clock. I was expecting 6:30 or 7 like it usually is when he stops amusing himself enough in his crib and decides he wants out. So I went in there, and he was happy as a clam just waking up. We got up and had a leisurely breakfast, then went with Sarah to see her wedding dress fitting. She's going to be a beautiful bride!

After we got home, Preston laid down for a little nap while I went out to the backyard. I had to empty the damn ponds again, since we didn't think to poke holes or empty the tubs from the last time, so they had filled with rainwater. Urgh. So I emptied them. By that point, Skip had woken up (he worked 'til 3am, so he slept in), so he came out and we got the first pond tub out. The previous owners of our house had really jimmied that damn thing in the ground, and surrounded it with fieldstone, so it was a haul, but we got it out. I moved the bridge as well. So, now there's a big 3 ft x 4 ft gaping pit in our backyard that needs to be filled... but that's going to have to wait for another weekend. As long as the dog doesn't start digging in the mud...

Preston had gotten up by that point, so we had some lunch, then got to work on the ceiling fan in the living room. One of the arms had randomly broken off a few weeks ago, so we had to get a new one (which was desperately needed for circulation, since only one of the 5 windows in the front of the house is not caulked shut... urgh... another project for another day-- why did the old people caulk windows shut? Seriously.). Anyways, the old one came down, and the new one took a while to put up. FYI, ceiling fans are a b!tch to put up. Especially when your ceiling is 85-year-0ld plaster, not drywall. But it's up. Haha, hopefully it STAYS up!

By that point, it was time for me to start my dinner prep. I made pork rib tips in salsa verde, so it took some time. Preston had gone back down for his afternoon nap, so I had plenty of concentration on the food. It took a couple hours, but I haven't had the opportunity to cook like that in a while, so I was having fun (and not even cursing my evil kitchen!). Dinner turned out delicious. Skip went back to work at 7, and P and I had a leisurely evening at home.

Sunday we all slept in again (!), and then Preston and I got up and went to church. He really is such a great kid at church, and loves the music. He got the hiccups at one point, though, and made everyone around us laugh when the hiccups would echo... it was pretty cute :). We came home and got Skip moving, then had lunch before going to get some family pictures. Preston was a champ at Sears and the mall while we were out. We have realized over the past 9 months that we are seriously blessed with such a happy, well-adjusted baby. His smiles, laughs, "words", "crawling", finally-growing hair, big baby blues and everything else about him just light up our lives. We are so lucky!

Anyways, we met the rest of my family for dinner on the south side since my mom and dad were up to fly out of MKE the next morning (to San Diego, to celebrate their 35th anniversary! What an example!). We had a very warm, humid meal on the patio at El Fuego, but it was good. We were really ready to punch out by the end, though, so we headed home. What a great weekend, and I look forward to the next one, when we get to meet our nephew Sawyer (and of course see Tom and Erin), and celebrate Sarah's bachelorette party and Skip's band's show. Back to the business of summer!
